It seems that reboots and revivals are becoming more and more popular now a days. The X-Files is back on Fox for a 6 episode mini-series, Full house is getting a spin-off on Netflix called Fuller House, and those are only a few of the most current reboots. If you were a kid in the 90’s you should remember Nickelodeon and all the Nicktoons. Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Aaaahh! Real Monster, Doug, The Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold are just a few of these great Cartoons that are rumored to be making their way back to life in a “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” kind of film.
Now I want to know what type of story they will have to come up with to meet everyone’s expectations, so let’s break this down. The writers will have to have enough main characters from all of the Nicktoons shows to appeal to the kids of the 90’s along with bringing in some of the later Nicktoons to appeal to the late 90’s early Millennials. How will all of the characters interact with one another? Will they all still look the same as they did when we first meet them? Will CatDog be mistaken for a monster from Aaahh! Real Monsters? There is a big opportunity here for a major success but an even greater chance at a huge failure and a result in upsetting a ton of older fans that still watch these now classic cartoons.
The feature is to be directed by Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess, with a screenplay he will co-write with his wife Jarusha Hess. The idea came from Ali Mendes, who worked with Disruption Entertainment’s Mary Parent. Characters from Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monster, and The Angry Beavers have been named as appearing. Doug is owned by Disney so we won’t be seeing Doug, Skeeter, or Mrs. Patty Mayonnaise.
